"Think globally, act locally..."

A big challenge that I deal with when planning weddings is the amount of waste that is produced with all of must have paper products, hand made signs and fun crafty additions that accent and decorate the ceremony and reception space. In order to personalize a space, they are necessary but...then what? Some things can be given away as "favors" while other's can be hung around the house as sweet reminders of a wedding day...

...but what to do with 200 paper lanterns and light inserts? The purchase cost of these was somewhere around $1,000. Or an antique birdcage that was perfect for gift cards but has no place in your house? The cost on them will vary...but from what I've researched, somewhere around $40 is a good estimate.

When you add up all of the little things--the little at home projects that maybe took a couple of tries, the picture frames for each table number, the aisle bows, chair bows, custom dyed dress bows (sashes really, but I'm on a roll)-- a substantial amount of money can be spent in decor. And what to do with it all when the day is done??

Recycle!!

Pop onto sites like RecycledBride or even Etsy to pass the joy onto others and give yourself a wedding gift with the money you get back! These sites are easy to navigate and will help you find a new home for all of the bits and pieces you can't use again, all while helping other folks find what they need for the weddings their planning. It's good karma all around!!

"Oh! The theme I've been waiting for all my life...Poetry. Sheer poetry...."

I absolutely love when an event follows a theme from start to finish.

It can be something as simple as a color, a flower, a shape...or following a larger idea like vintage, modern, shabby-chic. When an event follows a theme, things make sense. Circles lead to circles and more circles. I'm not suggesting that everything necessarily match--because what's the fun in that? I just want jumps that are logical. Lace and tea roses on an invitation followed with soft hues on tables, old family photos in distressed frames and hand written place cards...

Following a color theme through will also help your guests to get dressed--having plum on the invites might lead to clues that the bridesmaids are wearing a similar shade of purple and the decision between purple and yellow is easier to make. Also, the style and wording of the invitation can help folks to know how formally to dress.

These two knew exactly what they wanted when they planned their wedding...

Jena and Tom did an awesome job of following their vintage theme from beginning to end. Married on Sunday, June 5th, they turned the Inn into a dreamy 50's styled afternoon. With draped tulle and tissue puffs accenting the patio, guests floated around the dance floor on prosecco bubbles -- Jena created custom cocktails with a favorite bottle she and Tom share and featured it at each of the bars with hand written signs. DJ Walt stuck to older music too, playing nothing more modern that the early 60s. It rounded out the atmosphere perfectly -- we all know that Britney Spears and Rihanna do not equal vintage!

Pearls accented the ladies' full navy skirts. Feathers dressed up the mens' grey suits, popped from the bride's hairpiece and the bouquets...it was like taking a step back in time. I kept waiting for Don Draper to appear.

Hand made touches were put together to accent the space and match the vibe of the day...

Let's not forget the cake! The sweet owl toppers were dressed to match the bride and groom. Right down to the blusher...what a great match!
